To the Friends and Supporters of Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue:
Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue Foundation established itself in May 2004 as an Alberta based Registered Charitable Organization whose mandate was to find homes for retired racing greyhounds. We consistently placed an annual average of 130 greyhounds into loving, responsible homes across Western Canada.
Over the course of the last couple of years, it has become increasingly difficult to get greyhounds to Alberta. Because of the many track closures in the States, most of the greyhounds are now situated in Florida. As well, there has been a marked decrease in the number of racing dogs being born and registered. With this is mind, and knowing that there are still countless rescue and adoption groups across the country that are in closer proximity to the dogs than we are, we have made the difficult decision to no longer bring retired racing greyhounds up from the States. Although we regret having to make this decision, we are very proud of the fact that over the years our volunteers have put 1300+ greyhounds into permanent, loving homes. And we aren’t quite ready to roll over and play dead yet! As per the contract with each of our adopters, we will continue to take back any greyhound whose owner can no longer care for him/her and need to return him/her to us for rehoming.
Thanks to everyone whose generous support has made Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue the “greyt” success it has been. Although we will no longer continue with much in the way of promotional activities or fundraising efforts, we still need foster homes to take care of those greyhounds who are returned to us. Our priority from now on will be the care and rehoming of those greyhounds.
Please don’t hesitate to contact any of our adoption representatives at www.chinookwindsgreyhounds.org/contact.htm if you have questions or concerns, or if you have a greyhound that you need to return to us.
